Best Day Ever

"This is the best day ever!!" is something our son says about every other day.  Often "this is the worst day ever" will follow if his sister bites him or something doesn't go his way, yeah kids are fickle.  It's become a really cute thing he does though, so much so that we want to get a shirt made for him.  Well, I had one of those days recently and I've been thinking about it so much I figured I might as well write about it.

Our dear friends James and Tressa got married.  A couple days before the wedding I was talking to my mom about when we first started to get to know James and how my first thought had been "do I know a nice girl for him?".  He's just one of those great guys that you hope will one day meet someone as amazing as he is...and he did!  We are so happy for them and it was so exciting to be able to brew beer for their wedding and watch everyone enjoy it.  It was a beautiful wedding and of course when Tressa walked down the aisle, my make up started running.  We enjoyed a crisp Seattle evening on the roof with a stunning view of the city while the wedding party took pictures.  The kids chased each other around and had a blast.  Dinner and cupcakes were lovely and we actually were able to enjoy adult conversation while the kids played and watched movies in another room!  The BEST part however, was the dancing.  The first dance made me want to bawl again (don't forget, I'm pregnant...ahem, hormones).  The dance music started after and it was typical, people shyly standing around not wanting to be the first one out.  I think it might have been my mom who went out among the first and started dancing, and Zoe too (adorable).  Finally Norm and I joined everyone on the dance floor with our "white guy dance moves" and my "mom dance" as I like to call it; but we were having a great time.  Old school jams like Boyz II Men and new ones like Taylor Swift filled the room.  It was funny to watch the kids try and sing along to Sweet Caroline, as us adults were shouting "bum bum bum" and "so good! so good! so good!".

The absolute BEST part though, was when Kieren joined us.  If you don't know him well let me tell you a little bit about this amazing little boy.  Just a couple years ago he was very shy, would hide behind one of us before talking to someone he didn't know well.  He hated loud noises or music, he used to wear ear protection to church because the music was "too loud".  He was not outspoken or outgoing.  In the last couple years though, he has blossomed.  He says hi to strangers, shakes hands with friends, winks at us.  When we are out and he sees a homeless person or someone with a sign asking for help he gets extremely distraught if we don't have any cash or anything to give them, often tears are shed.  He's amazing, but that's a blog for another time.  What I'm getting at is this boy who just over a year ago would have wanted to leave because the music was too loud, ran out onto the dance floor and started dancing around like a little maniac and kept going for almost 2 hours!  By the time we left he was sweaty, tie off, shirt open; like a mini Patrick Swayze!  He was getting in the middle of the dance circles with us cheering him on, dancing with another little girl...(don't even get me started on that).  He came up to us at one point and said this other girl at the wedding wanted to "go up on the roof and look at the moon", Norm and I looked at each other...HUH!?  Anyway, the point is he had a blast and watching him get out there like that with no fear made me the happiest I've been since...well, maybe when he was born...or my own wedding day.  My face hurt from smiling so much.

So you might be annoyed with my Facebook posts and constant referencing of "that day"...but seriously, it was THE BEST DAY EVER.
