Read at your own risk...

Normally when something tragic happens involving guns, I will post something on Facebook about what I think.  Today I'm writing it in my blog because I know people have their own opinions on this matter and if they take the time to read what I'm writing in here, they can't get all over my case because they could have chosen not to read it.  Having said that...what the fuck is wrong with America?  How many shootings need to take place before something changes with gun control?  Just a few days ago there was a shooting at an Oregon mall and now in Connecticut, 27 people, MOSTLY CHILDREN are dead because of another shooting.  This one has more casualties than Columbine, the school shooting that is most often talked about.  Again...what the fuck!?!  I'm sorry if you're offended by the swearing but I've already had a bad day, now to hear about this...I am fucking pissed off.

You might be thinking, "people kill people" or whatever, but if we took away the guns, would this have happened?  It's definitely easier to run from a nut case with a knife than it is to run from a nut case with a gun, not to mention 4 weapons.

I am so tired of all the excuses.  Why do average suburban people need guns?  Honestly.  If you want to have a safe of hunting rifles to go out and hunt bison or birds or whatever, fine.  If you are a cop, than yes or course, by all means. 

I almost don't even know what to say.  I am shocked, hurt, heart broken for these families.  Apparently the children were crying out, "we just want Christmas, we don't want to die"...I mean, a fucking elementary school?  REALLY!?!?!?!  I know that one can't shelter their children because of things like this.  There are horrible people in this world, it's just the way it is.  But at this moment in time, I am very happy that we have chosen to home school.  Say what you will.  That's how I feel right now. 

If you've taken time to read this, thank you.  It's my own little rant and rave and hardly coherent because I'm so full of rage.  Let's pray for these people now that have had their very own hearts ripped out.  And let's pray for change.  Because things NEED to change, like yesterday.

My Calling

Leave it to a Taylor Swift docuseries to give me an earth-shattering revelation.  If you know me well or have read my blog, you will know about my very long struggle with vocation and what that means for me.  When I was around five, I wanted to "cut hair".  Flash forward to early college, I wanted to do youth ministry which turned into music which turned into I should just graduate already.  I had a string of random jobs to help pay the bills while we started to grow our family.  As I got older, I started to wonder "what am I doing with my life"?  I regretted being in debt for college when I wasn't "using" my degree to make money.   At one point I thought it might be fun to go to massage school and maybe that's something I could be good at.  Then when we were in Iowa, I realized I had a strong passion for social justice and began a certificate program but only took one class because we had to move pretty suddenly.  Once we got back to Se...

Paleo Fish Tacos

For those of you who were interested in the fish taco recipe... -Everyday Paleo Family Cookbook, By Sarah Fragoso Fish Tacos with Spicy Slaw 1-2 lbs wild-caught cod fillets Marinade Freshly squeezed juice from 1 lime 1 tbsp olive oil 1/4 tsp chipotle powder 1 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp salt Spicy Slaw 2 cups shredded green cabbage 1 cup diced mango 1/2 cup diced cilantro leaves 1 1/2 cups peeled and diced jicama 1 fresh jalapeno, seeds removed and minced (optional) 1/4 cup mayonnaise (she makes her own, I just used out of the jar) 1/8 tsp chipotle powder 1/2 tsp ground cumin For tacos: Butter or Romaine lettuce leaves Diced fresh cilantro Sliced radishes Lime wedges 1.  In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together marinade 2.  Put the fish fillets in the bowl of marinade and gently rub the marinade into them; let the fish soak for at least 15 min. 3.  In the meantime prepare the spicy slaw 4.  Rinse and dry several large butter or Romaine let...
